thupr: media databases and distribution wires

Claire Thompson, Waves PR

Today’s the day I get to set loose the tickets for the first thupr (The tools that help us – PR). I’m not wedded to the name, incidentally, so feel free to suggest a better one. To be honest, these are more mixers than events – informal chances to test drive!

All I aim to do is put together the tools that help us, around a single area of activity, in a single space so that we can look, try out, improve our understanding. In the process I expect it to take on a life of it’s own, and start the conversations around experience and best practise. I am on my own doing this, so please add any positive contribution to make this more valuable for anyone coming along.

The first ‘event’ is a PR mixer around media databases and news distribution wires. This is the Wiki: for the whole lot http://thupr.wikispaces.com/.

Friday December 11, 2 pm- 6 pm

Pitcher and Piano, 40-42 William IV St, Trafalgar Square, WC2N 4DD

= relaxed & non-salesy.

I am charging £10 which will help cover some of my costs – and if we get too big will pay for a hired room. (Really, this isn’t  a money making venture, and if you’re coming but object to the the tenner, get in touch and I’ll sort it out for you) You can sign up via the wiki, or below.

The whole thing is  genuinely open for suggestions to make it better, and do add your questions for suppliers to the wiki (click the edit button, top right and save your amends when you’re done).

Although it’s primarily aimed at PR people, as that’s who I expect to be interested, everyone’s welcome (OK, a room full of PR folk may not be everyone’s cup of tea!)

I think I’ve caught the majority of the service providers, but do go to the wiki and add any that you’d like me to ask, or, if you’re a supplier feel free to add your name (making sure you read the notes for suppliers – there’s no charge to attend, but you are expected to sdhare the costs of refreshing visitors!) I haven’t included the ‘post your press releases here and we’ll blast them to the world’ services as I have a problem with this approach, but if others would find it valuable to have them there, who am I to say no?

(PS Quick note on the role of press ress releases in the modern PR World: http://www.wavespr.com/waves-pr-blogs/putting-the-press-release-in-its-place/)
