Barcelona before Copenhagen – 350.org update

According to Teresa Niño of 350.org “Barcelona, Spain is ground zero for the climate world this week the last official UN negotiating session before the Copenhagen climate talks next month.”

The 350.org crew are there, building on the momentum of Oct. 24′s day of action.

Very slickly, 350.org is using the web to make it really easy for people to to express support for government action on gloabal warming. They’ve rammed it down non-ones throat. They’ve simply provided the tools that make it easy to take part in the next bit: directly contacting the people who will be able to influence the outcome of the December summit.

There are no rock stars involved with 350 (yet?). Just ordinary people, moving together to make their wishes known. I quote:  ’350 is part of the TckTckTck coalition, an unprecedented civil society mobilization.’

It doesn’t mean there are not some big fans. An extract from their press release about the event:

“People in almost all the nations of the earth are involved ,” said 350 honorary spokesman Nobel Laureate Desmond Tutu. “It’s the same kind of coalition that helped make the word “apartheid” known around the world.”

Last night, organisers were due to form an illuminated human 350 outside of the conference center. I’ll pop up the pictures when they’re available.

Meanwhile,I would encourage anyone who wants to see some change, who thinks that gloabal warming is an important issue – and if you are a parent, it HAS to be – to sign up to what you feel you can. The time investment is as little as a few minutes. The cost investment need be nothing more than a stamp.

We live in amazing times where working together we can create change – across borders. It’s democratic, peaceful and SO easy to do. Lesson for lots of other things there, then.
