Drop Card

Claire Thompson, Waves PR: July 28, 2009

With Waves PR being new, and the initial very busy set up rush dying down, it’s time to start spreading the word that we’re here. So the normal round of on-line listings and articles and so forth has started, and seems fairly effective for the small amount of time and effort dedicated sporadically to date.

Following an article found on Mashable, Drop Card seemed a useful tool for self promotion. (Horrible term, self promoting, but unfortunately necessary as a freelance).

The Drop Card idea is great, but unfortunately failed to deliver.

Having entered all details, the entries vanished into the ether. Going back a page, and even to the start, failed to help, but a message did appear, advising that a confirmatory link had been sent to email.

Email duly traced (in spam box – inevitable), confirmed and logged back in, it appeared that all of the details previously entered, with the exception of email address, had been lost.  No matter. They were enthusiastically re-entered.

Where they are now, however, is anyone’s guess. A mobile number that refused to accept. Name and address unknown. Colour preferences lost in space. Network details came back with a stroppy message about mis-entering, but no instructions on what, exactly, the system needed for accurate entry.

It’s possible that either their server, my PC, or even I was having a bad day, but I’m not in a hurry to try a fourth time. And there was no immediately obvious way of contacting the company for help.

Perhaps it’s my loss. The idea seemed nice and simple, and had potential for linking to other networks like LinkedIn. But for the moment, sorry Drop Card. I can’t use your software.##
